Question 1
How is the initial material being researched and developed at significant stages during the process of creating drama?

Today we improvised a scene where maria was hungover and laying on the sofa in the front room in her underwear, and my parents were about to arrive for a visit. Objectives=maria: i want everyone to be quite so i can sleep, david: i want to watch top gear, me: i want maria out of the front room so my parents can come in here.

It went really well, we just have to remember not to smile at the cheeky bits unless we smile as our characters we also need to think about where the audience is so david and i don't accidentally block marias face as she's at a different level. We need to decided on a climax aswell either me pregnant or me gay-opinions??

We also changed it and decided to move it to present day as we think this will make it more believable as it is easier for us to relate to so we now have to think about our music for the part scene. We all have quite different music tastes naturally so we will just combine those to make it look like we keep swapping it over. For this we will think about the political aspects of today's student society-fees, jobs, government. We thought that i could afford to go because i got a scholarship which fits nicely in with the fact that i got the 'better' part in the production over maria's character, maria would have daddy pay for everything and david would secretly be an escort.

We also think david should have a mononlogue so that the audience can get to know his character more, he has researched his character by watching tv programmes so he will incorporate what he has found from that into his monologue we now just have to decided where the monologue will come in the course of the performance and how it will fit with the other section.

Lastly we will think about whether we want it linear or non-linear, at the moment we are thinking non-linear becuase we have never really done anything like thaty before so it is more interesting but the audience may not be able to understand. So once we have created all the scenes we will try it out in linear and non-linear form and see what works best.

18/10/11-open evening rehearsal

Q3 How did you and your group explore the possibilities of form, structure and performance styles?

This rehearsal was good we developed lots of ideas and a bit of a structure for our piece. We decided that we will have it non-linear as we think it will make it more intriguing for the audience. We explored the 'noisy' scene purely by imporvising what we think should happen. i found this really difficult but by exploration we decided that, it would work better if it was in blackout as this would mean that the audience would have a 'did they, did they not' opinion of the scene.

Q2 How are you personally creating and exploring your role(s)?

For the rehearsal scene we explored our characters and the scene by firstly doing it how we thought it should be we then got some feedback from Miss Wilson who said we should try turning the volume up to 10 this worked really well especially for my overexcited ditzy character but i think was too full on for the whole thing so i think i will have my character at an 8 at all times.

10th October Q3

Q3: How did you and your group explore the possibilities of form, structure and performance styles?

Today we did three improv scenes inrelation to our characters: In the pub, in the library and in the supermarket. The pub scene didnt work very well as we werent really sure how our characters would behave, the library scene worked well as i really found out how ditzy and stupid Lizzie is. In the supermarket scene maria was really good as thinking she was above the whole of saimsburys, she thought sainsburys was below her and we should go to waitrose instead.

We also discussed how two ways in which we could possibly run our peice the first was have a scripted part in the begginning and then have the middle and climax as us as characters and then return to the scripted thing at the end OR we could chop and change into and out of us being actors throghout the play, so that the play's climax and the climax of us as friends came at the same time.

The second way of doing it could be possibly problematic because it would probably involve writing our own play so we would write one thing for offstage relationships and one thing for onstage relationships. This could be good because we could make our onstage characters very different from our offstage ones but it would be complicated as it would mean not only devising our piece but also creating an entire other scripted thing on top of that.

The first way of doing it i think is probably my preference because we have decided that we'd quite like to set it in 1990, this way of doing it would make it easier to add that into our peice ad we can research actual historical facts that happened and put them into our piece we can also research the different classes, and as our characters are all quite different, have the three characters coming from different social backgrounds and how that would affect our relationships.

Thursday 6th October Lesson

Ok so from mondays lesson we were spilt into groups and me, maria and david are together.
So on thursday we talked about what we were going to do for the rest of this week and next and also decided on four targets that we want to have acheieved by next week these were:
Hot seat characters, Decide when it will be set, Decide on a climax and decide on a begginning.

We began thursdays lesson by filling in the rehearsal schedule and decided that in period 2 we would hotseat the characters. We did this by interviewing each person in turn as if they were interviewing for a job in a drama company.

From this is found that: I'm 21, my mum is a hairdresser and my dad is a petrol station attendant who i dont see much of even though my parents are still together, grew up in sheppey, can't do any accents, did drama all the way up my education and wanted to do it in uni but they said i was too ditzy, i'm comfortable with singing and dancing, i have 4 brothers and 2 sisters, single, very enthusiastic, i'm a bit away with the fairies a lot of the time and i need a lot of language coaching.

We then had some time left so we did a mini conversational thing where we all were in character and we meeting eachother for the first time as if we'd all got the job. From this i found: my name is elizabeth, i dont have much brains, i get insulted a lot by morgan (maria) but dont get it and i'm a virgin.

We also talked to Miss about possible climaxes and came up with: an illness, long lost family members, offered a job in australia, terror attack? We also talked about it possibly being set in the 70's and possibly the three of us coming from different social backgrounds.

So for next week our targets are: Decide on a climax, decide on a begginnin and choose a time for it to be set.
