10/11/11

Well, here is what we did today.....

Many conversations about what was actually going on. in relation to the question about character development that i can't remember we hotseated according to our new (ish) people:
Maria: morgan, 22, fiancee is fave person-taken, couldnt live without him, got the text on her wedding day, fave food is ice cream.
David: jimmy, 25, daughter is 3, not much contact with her, lives with her mum in plymouth, wouldnt let anyone get near her let alone touch her, would hunt them down and kill them when he knew who it was.
Me: Elizabeth (lizzie), 18, "playing for her mum", couldnt cope if her mum was gone, got text at 4:30 in afternoon, was watching tv, possibly got the text first.

We also improvised the begginning we will start with all of us lying dead on the floor, then i turn my head  'What's happened?!' then it will be a blackout and will be sitting around a table with money as a ransom for our people talk for a bit, then cut to 'marias' scene where david is the best man and i am her mum its her wedding day and david and i are trying to hide the fact that we don't know where 'eric' is.
Feedback: change to david as best man rather than dad so we did that, i should have my money with me rather than hiding it to make everyone more the same.

Other notes: happen in a run down warehouse in east london, funny in specific scene serious around the table, stimulus: fear after watching the skateboarders at the south bank, could we have got there throught facebook? text?, it's a massive thing if a life is at steak so we have to fully show that in our scenes.

More tomorrow after our lunch time rehearsal :)

7/11/11-change of idea

Ok so, we came to a bit of a brick wall with our piece so we've decided to change it based on an idea that i had after the insprational day.

We want it to start with the three of us sitting round the table playing cards and the whole thing would be about how the three of us got here, we are thinking that we would have it so that some higher power e.g mob were holding a loved one hostage, we thought marias person could be her fiancee and the back story would be her fiancee 'left' her at the alter (actually he was kidnapped) davids would be to save his daughter but we dont know what his back story would be yet i don't know much about mine yet as i'm changing my character to be stern and quiet and then with my back story have my character happy and joyful and show something really drastic happening to make her the way she is.

3/11/11

What we did today....

Thought about potential climaxs: me and david brother and sister/someone dies/preganancy/hiv/ lesbian
and davids monologue should reference whatever the climax is but not give it away

if climax is me and david bro and sis then: i tell maria, beat about the bush, is it good for us? is this what we want? david didnt have family so he is unhappy i have 7 bros and sisters so why was he given up? do kitchen scene with both underlined ones and see which works best/comes naturally

Feedback from hangover scene:
-make the objective clearer-wouldnt i go and open the door and get jimmy to get morgan out of the front room?
-northern accent for me?
-david volume

we are also getting closer and closer to deciding that we should get rid of the non-liner aspect of it so we when we are finished all scenes which will be in the next 2 weeks we will run it all linear and non linear Q3

I don't know what question this would be relevant to? help please :D :D Spanx

20/10/11 Interview with ms wilson re drama school

Question 2
how are you personally creating and exploring your role(s)?
I don't know if this is still relevant becuase we moved it to modern day but i think we could possibly still use some of things and we should definately keep the name of the bar.
Maria's questions and misses answers

What was it like?
Really good 1st year, eye opening, didnt have drama at school. personal life affects drama school a lot, can be really hard, full on

What were teacher-student relationships like?
2 affairs with teachers, would come to pub with them, really busy, lots of classes, 2 jobs, shock at how much everything costs cos you really want to go out.

Drugs/alcohol?
lots of spliffs, gay guy got beaten up (david/me gay??)

Do you have to do everything?
no, couldnt kiss a girl (could incorporate that issue?)

How do people react now to saying you are/were at drama school?
ask what real job is, think if you're an actor you have to be famous for it to mean anything

In class did you have people like our characters?
Maria=well off background, bitchy, 'look at me', 'so nice you're my friend'
Emily=never know when someone was mocking her, taken the mick out of all the time
David=made out he was amazing, impression that he slept withy all these girls, had a lot of stories was actually quite sweet.
  • Beer girl could be us aiming for our exam piece at the end of the year-becht
  • could be a class project/ seperate scenes using practitioner
  • put stanislavski/brecht references
  • theatre bar-the electirc theatre-student discount
  • pink hair?

Structure

1: 'move in'
2: 'party'
2.5: 'hungover morgan'
3: 'jimmy + lizzie drunken night'
4: 'rehersal'
5: 'kitchen scene'
6: 'scripted a'
7: 'scripted b'

So it will be in the order of:
2  6  1  2.5  4  3  5  7

31/10/11-9 more weeks! :o

Question 1
How is the initial material being researched and developed at significant stages during the process of creating drama?

Today we improvised a scene where maria was hungover and laying on the sofa in the front room in her underwear, and my parents were about to arrive for a visit. Objectives=maria: i want everyone to be quite so i can sleep, david: i want to watch top gear, me: i want maria out of the front room so my parents can come in here.

It went really well, we just have to remember not to smile at the cheeky bits unless we smile as our characters we also need to think about where the audience is so david and i don't accidentally block marias face as she's at a different level. We need to decided on a climax aswell either me pregnant or me gay-opinions??

We also changed it and decided to move it to present day as we think this will make it more believable as it is easier for us to relate to so we now have to think about our music for the part scene. We all have quite different music tastes naturally so we will just combine those to make it look like we keep swapping it over. For this we will think about the political aspects of today's student society-fees, jobs, government. We thought that i could afford to go because i got a scholarship which fits nicely in with the fact that i got the 'better' part in the production over maria's character, maria would have daddy pay for everything and david would secretly be an escort.

We also think david should have a mononlogue so that the audience can get to know his character more, he has researched his character by watching tv programmes so he will incorporate what he has found from that into his monologue we now just have to decided where the monologue will come in the course of the performance and how it will fit with the other section.

Lastly we will think about whether we want it linear or non-linear, at the moment we are thinking non-linear becuase we have never really done anything like thaty before so it is more interesting but the audience may not be able to understand. So once we have created all the scenes we will try it out in linear and non-linear form and see what works best.

18/10/11-open evening rehearsal

Q3 How did you and your group explore the possibilities of form, structure and performance styles?

This rehearsal was good we developed lots of ideas and a bit of a structure for our piece. We decided that we will have it non-linear as we think it will make it more intriguing for the audience. We explored the 'noisy' scene purely by imporvising what we think should happen. i found this really difficult but by exploration we decided that, it would work better if it was in blackout as this would mean that the audience would have a 'did they, did they not' opinion of the scene.

Q2 How are you personally creating and exploring your role(s)?

For the rehearsal scene we explored our characters and the scene by firstly doing it how we thought it should be we then got some feedback from Miss Wilson who said we should try turning the volume up to 10 this worked really well especially for my overexcited ditzy character but i think was too full on for the whole thing so i think i will have my character at an 8 at all times.
